The words of Francesc Cassú, conductor of La Simfònica de Cobla i Corda de Catalunya

Francesc Cassú, conductor of La Simfònica de Cobla i Corda de Catalunya and conductor of La Principal de la Bisbal.

The splendid sensation we had when LA SIMFÒNICA DE COBLA I CORDA (the Cobla and String Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia) started to play its first project, in which sardanas were the protagonists, is now reinforced and re-valued with a whole new repertoire. Still within the context of Catalan music, this sensation is ennobled in this second disc that hopes to definitively consolidate an orchestra which oozes the essence of Catalonia and the Empordà region with every note.

Certainly, our very rich folklore serves as a supporting pillar for the work of a whole series of composers who, whether strictly as composers or as orchestrators, have given a new colour and a new form to an orchestra with this great virtue: sonorous novelty.

With an amalgamation of styles that expressly seek contrast, we have really gone to town choosing some of the great Catalan composers (Mompou, Monsalvatge, Serra, Palomar, Cases, etc.) and we have merged them with the Costa Brava and its centenary year. The Nova Cançó artistic movement and its 50 years, the most typical melodies of our land and even the classics of Catalan rock music. All this has been done with the serenity of a string orchestra, the power of a cobla ensemble and the force of the percussion to create this symphonic sound which, from the Empordà region, as the sardana and the cobla did, take flight to open up the way using innovation and quality as fundamental pillars.
