The words of Josep Carreras about The Very Best

27/11/2015

Josep Carreras, Catalan tenor.

Last February 7, in the incomparable setting of the Gran Teatro del Liceo, where I made my debut over forty years ago, I had the pleasure of performing together with the Cobla and String Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia and the Polyphonic Choir of Puig-Reig, in the closing concert honoring my city, Barcelona, as Capital of the Sardana. It was very moving to be able to sing the best known sardanas and traditional songs of our rich repertoire surrounded by the powerful and unequivocally Catalan sound of the cobla and by the very young and enthusiastic string musicians.

I would like to warmly congratulate those responsible for the Metalquimia Foundation for their initiative in creating an orchestra like the SCCC and making it grow to the level of performing in the most important venues in the country, such as the Gran Teatro del Liceo and the Palau de la Música. I also congratulate them on having completed six discographic works, of which a collection is now available, including pieces that range from indispensable traditional Catalan music to much bolder themes such as music from movie soundtracks and classics of pop and rock. I wholeheartedly wish this very special orchestra a long life full of successes, with the assurance that through music they will find happiness.
