The words of Minister for Culture and Communication of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia

Cultures progress when, in addition to being reconsidered theoretically, they are subject to proposals of renewal coming from all its spheres of activity without implying, necessarily, a renouncing of tradition.

The new LA SIMFÒNICA DE COBLA I CORDA DE CATALUNYA (THE COBLA AND STRING SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF CATALONIA), made up of musicians from La Principal de la Bisbal and l’Orquestra de Cambra de l’Empordà, is one of these initiatives. From a musical point of view, the appearance of this group represents a presence of interest in the world of popular and traditional Catalan culture.

The concert of presentation in the Auditori of Girona makes this clear, and this first work of the group, SARDANAS FOR THE WORLD – which includes a repertoire of pieces arranged expressly for our orchestra –, will also contribute to a renewed interpretation of our most emblematic popular dance.
